Seeing the Taj Mahal is a dream I’ve had since I first moved to Maldives to teach English, back in 2015. Studying the Wonders of the World with the gorgeous children of my Year 1 class, I heard all their incredible stories of the Taj Mahal. This really planted the idea of travelling to India to see the Taj Mahal. 2 years later, I got there and she was even more magical in real life than I could have possibly of imagined!! When someone from the USA Travel Channel found our pictures of Bellmore Falls on Instagram, I had no idea that it would lead to taking the Travel Channel team there to film an episode for World’s Top Secret Swimming Holes! We even had to film the segment twice, as the first time was just so hetic and dangerous with all the recent rain. I also ended up filming a second segment, at Greenfield’s Beach in Jervis Bay, right nearby my house! Such an epic experience!! Read an article in my local paper about my experience!
Attending WTWC Maldives was just such a magical experience – read all about WTWC here! I had the opportunity to meet some of my blogging idols, like Liz Carlson from Young Adventuress and Tom Grond from Travel Tom Tom. We had the opportunity to discuss how to best open up budget travel in Maldives with lead Maldives tourism stakeholders. The conference was held at Bandos Maldives, where we were lucky enough to stay at! You can read my review of Bandos Maldives here. The amazing Gala Evening event was held at Adaaran Hudhuran Fushi Resort. Read my review of Adaaran Hudhuran Fushi Resort here!
I had been following Kayumanis Bali on Instagram for a couple of years. When we were invited to stay at not one, but two of their super luxurious properties, I was so thrilled! Read our reviews of Kayumanis Jimbaran and Kayumanis Ubud. We absolutely loved both properties and think they are a dream honeymoon destination. Read my reviews of the other 9 other luxury Bali resorts we had the pleasure of staying and reviewing!
This year I was also invited to India. I was a little apprehensive, so much so that it took me 2 months to actually commit to the trip! The entire time we were at The Indian Summer House, I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn’t in Bali! It was just so tropical and lush – I have no idea what I was worried about. This was one special property – a complete tropical oasis. You can read the full review of Indian Summer House here!
Our stay in India didn’t finish there. In fact, we decided to fly from the south of the country to the north and road trip northern India – which mind you, was like road tripping the entire east coast of Australia in two weeks! We took two flights to get from Cochin to Chandigarh, where our road trip began… or didn’t because our car broke down within the first 10 minutes! We visited Shimla and Naldhera where we stayed at Chalet Naldehra and journeyed all the way past Kullu to Manali, with only one flat tyre! We stayed at Manali’s most luxurious property, The Himalayan and ventured to almost 8000ft in the Himalayas! We trekked to waterfalls, saw snow-capped mountains and had the most magical luxury stay. We also took an overnight 13 hour sleeper train to New Delhi! That was an experience!
Langkawi island is a lot like I imagine Bali would have been like back in the early days of tourism. The beaches are beautiful, just like Thailand or Bali, just without any crowds! Langkawi is a great adventure holiday. Staying at a gorgeous heritage resort, Bonton Resort, we rented a motorbike and spent each day travelling the island! From cable car journeys, to beautiful beaches, to chasing big big waterfalls – Langkawi is an adventure lovers paradise! Watch our Langkawi Video here!
There’s nothing like having a base for a month in between travels. We picked KL as it was a central location in between our travel destinations like Bali, India and Maldives. Apartments in KL are super cheap to rent! Ours even had a rooftop pools and view of both the Petrona Towers and KL Tower, which would glow on the hour each night! Everything in KL is a third of the price it is in Australia! We ate so much yummy street food, shopped until we could shop no more and discovered the real cultural mixed bag that KL is. I loved it and would return again in a heartbeat! Read my KL Food Tour Review here.
Having one of my best friends come and Island hop the Maldives with me for 12 days was just amazing! We explored some amazing local islands and stayed at a number of beautiful resorts!! We even rented a private surfari boat and spent days on end cruising between Maldivian islands and discovering the true paradise that Maldives is! Check out my review of Season Paradise at Thulusdhoo Island and Thoddoo Beach View. Watch our Maldives Island Hopping Video here!
During our stay at the stunning Indian Summer House, we took a luxury housboat cruise in Alleppey. We cruised the channels, had lunch on board and just enjoyed a day exploring southern India from the water! It was incredible!
We were invited to one of the most luxurious properties, Samabe Bali in Nusa Dua, Bali, for a private romantic cave dinner!! Arriving at the resort, we enjoyed Welcome drink and were escorted via Jeep down a cliffside track, to the beautiful Nusa Dua beach for sunset. The cave was illuminated with glowing lights and candles and the sounds of Ed Sheeran filled the cave! We enjoyed a three-course seafood meal – it was the stuff honeymoons are made of! Read about our experience here!
Whilst in Bali, we woke up super early one morning – like 2am early and trekked to the top of Mt Batur for sunrise! It was one of the most magical mornings, eating breakfast, a top a volcano at sunrise! It wasn’t an easy trek that’s for sure… I ended up stacking it multiple times and returned to my resort with a good case of road rash!! Read about our Mt Batur climb here.
